Elevate Your Outdoor Style with Robert Allen Home & Garden IronStone® Planters

Adding planters filled with plants, flowers, and even vegetables and herbs to your outdoor living space is a great way to add a touch of life and increase the visual appeal of your space. Today, I’m excited to share my real-life experience with the Robert Allen Home & Garden IronStone® planters. And in case you are wondering, yes, I am writing a review about outdoor flower planters. That’s how much I love them.
You see, back in the spring of 2020 I purchased seven (yes, seven) Robert Allen Home & Garden IronStone® planters to replace the cracked, chipped, and flaking terra cotta pots I had been using. So Let’s dig in and explore why these IronStone® planters are unique and why they have become an essential part of my outdoor living space.
Rating: ★★★★★ (5 out of 5 stars)
Key Features
- Beautiful Design – While the exact style and color that I purchased in 2020 is no longer available, there are many shapes, sizes, styles and colors that can complement any outdoor décor.
- Eco-Friendly Materials – Don’t be fooled by the name. IronStone® planters are not made of stone. They are made from upcycled automotive steel that is pressed into shape and spun into a one-piece planter. Since there are no seams or welds these planters won’t leak or rust.
- Durable Finish – IronStone® planters are made to withstand all types of conditions. My planters are exposed to the harsh Colorado sun. I leave them outdoors year round and they still look like they did the day I bought them. Here’s what the Robert Allen Home & Garden website says about the finish: “Carefully powder coated with a triple-layer finish, these planters are covered with a base coat, a hand-brushed texture coat, and a glossy clear coat to produce an exquisite high shine finish.”
- Lightweight Construction: These planters are surprisingly lightweight (about half the weight of similar-sized ceramic pots) making it easy for you to move and rearrange them even when filled with soil.
- Cost: The cost of IronStone® planters varies based on the size of the planter. A standard 14-inch pot is about $60, and taller planters are in the $80-$90 range. Given their exceptional quality and durability they are worth the investment, which is similar to glazed ceramic planters.
- Other Features: IronStone® planters come with padded rubber feet and a rubber drain plug making them suitable for indoor or outdoor use. IronStone® planters also come with a full three-year warranty.

The one downside of the IronStone® planters for me is retail availability. Though I’m sure this varies greatly depending on the time of year, I have not confirmed that. I purchased my planters from Amazon, where the Robert Allen Home & Garden parent company, Headwind Consumer Products has a storefront.
